LITCHFIELD mayor

a new team

Litchfield Shire needed a Mayor who could bring together a team that would restore common sense to local government and rebuild the trust of the community.  A team that would prioritise delivery of services that benefit everyone and that would manage a budget responsibly.  That man is Doug Barden and that is exactly what he has done since being elected Mayor in August 2021.

achievements AS A COUNCILOR

Successfully lobbied for the sealing of:

- Carveth & William Rd – 2018/19

- Oxford Rd – 2019/20

- Whitestone Rd - 2020/21

- Guy Creek Rd -2021/22

- Mango Rds (currently under construction)

- Mocatto Rd - 2020/21

- Horsnell Rd- 2020/21

- Chibnall Rd 2020/21

- Kentish Rd - 2021/22

Continuation of the road construction from the previous council projects as per the 2015/16 Municipal Plan, which includes:

- Buyers Rd

- Manton Valley Rd

- Brougham Rd (south)

Lobbied hard to prevent the UCV rating system from being brought into council policy in 2019/20.

Lobbied to stop the Council purchase of the AllTools building at 9 Patsalou Rd. It was a bad deal and would have left the Council in debt.

Lobbied Council to have funding for Recreation Reserves increased at the same rate as council rate increases. I'm still fighting for this.

Successfully lobbied Council for the Mira Square lease from NTG & NTG grant funding.

Australia Day is an event that the community, and myself, look forward to all year.

This year we have something for everyone;

  • a fun run

  • free breakfast BBQ and sweet treats

  • our Australia Day Awards, and

  • the opportunity for us to welcome new citizens to our lucky country

This year on Australia Day, Litchfield will welcome 16 conferees (new citizens) from 8 different countries, and being the Presiding Officer at these ceremonies is both a privilege and honour.

I look forward to seeing you all at Freds Pass on 26th January to welcome our new citizens and enjoy the many fabulous activities offered by our community organisations.

More information about the events can be found on Facebook, here.
